IN WHICH I FIND COOL STUFF ON THE INTERNET SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

A weekly collection of kickass stuff I find on the internet.

Cool Stuff // And Also… // Articles // Videos // Trailers & TV/Movie News

Whoa. You guys. I have totally been neglecting you.

I was updating all the time (basically NAILING this blog thing) and then I abandoned you.

Forgive me.

I got a job (like an ADULT) and so I’ve been dealing with that.

I know what you are thinking– and I agree.

It’s no excuse.

And after this post– I’ll be back to posting on the regular.

Let’s DO THIS!

DI Cool Stuff Bar

BUT WHO WILL SPEAK FOR THE BUTTERSCOTCH LOVERS? ~ NPR is usually pretty good about giving a voice to the disenfranchised. I’ve heard from displaced refugees and from Arab revolutionaries in Cairo– all of them finally able to tell their stories of bravery and perseverance in the face of adversity. “Bringing Back Butterscotch” is another heroic tale NPR was brave enough to air. Rina Rapuano talks about the stigma surrounding butterscotch– chiefly the strange looks people give her when she orders it and her 80 year old mother thinking that she was “uncool.” How does she have the strength to go on? You guys, we have got to MOBILIZE! Is there a Butterscotch Lobby in Washington?

Whatever. I’m being unnecessarily harsh and kind of an asshole. Butterscotch is for reals delicious. “Bringing it back” is a crusade I can totally get behind.  [NPR]

IS “GAY FOR PAY” PASSÉ? ~ The answer, of course, is “YES.” Buzzfeed put out a list of “31 Actresses That Went Gay For Pay.” It’s a list of ladies who have played LGBT characters in film or television. The list is meant to be celebratory but there are a few things about it that irk me– chiefly the phrase “Gay for Pay.” Dana Piccoli wrote a great article in response (“Is “Gay for Pay” Passé?“) and you should read it. Piccoli notes that the phrase “has pornographic origins.” All I’m sayin’ is if you are singling people out to honor them- using “Gay For Pay” seems a little backhanded to me. It is awesome that queer/LGBT stories are starting to be told and that actors feel drawn to these roles– and to some degree these actors should be celebrated. So when we single them out for recognition- surely there is something we can say that denotes gratitude.” I’ve been working on it and If you had to have a term for straight actors who play LGBT characters in the media: Faux-mos. It’s perfect.

Really, this whole paragraph was just so I could demonstrate how amazing I am at creating portmanteaus. Jealous?
